Aylesbury's Conservative candidate in the General Election, Rob Butler, this morning (Wednesday 20 November, 2019) met the Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, in Stoke Mandeville to discuss HS2.
Rob said: "Since Day 1 of this campaign, the dominant message I've heard on the doorstep is that local people are extremely concerned about HS2.
"I was pleased to be able to tell the Transport Secretary face to face that local people believe there is no economic case and no environmental case for HS2.
"Mr Shapps assured me that the Oakervee Review into HS2 has not yet been received by the Department for Transport, and that he is committed to considering it with an open mind."
The Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, said "I was pleased to come to Stoke Mandeville this morning and discuss HS2 with Rob.
"The increasing cost of the project means it is right to hold a review, and the government will consider it thoroughly before making a final decision on the future of HS2".
Mr Shapps also agreed to meet Rob again, with a group of local residents, after the General Election.
